Experience the Magic of Moneglia at Abbadia San Giorgio

Abbadia San Giorgio is a sanctuary of history and tranquility in Moneglia, where the echoes of the past blend seamlessly with modern elegance. Originally built in 1484 as a Franciscan convent, its double cloister still whispers the stories of the friars who once found solace within its frescoed walls. Today, it invites travelers to experience a rare harmony of heritage and refined hospitality.

Beyond the arched galleries, a secluded garden offers a peaceful retreat, while the upper portico—adorned with plush armchairs—provides the perfect setting for an evening aperitivo with a view of the ancient bell tower. Every corner is infused with quiet sophistication, from the carefully preserved stone floors to the rich textures of local slate and marble.

For those seeking deep relaxation, a soothing massage in the privacy of their room or a rejuvenating yoga session with a skilled instructor adds to the sense of well-being. Whether wandering through the cloister’s corridors or savoring a moment of stillness with a glass of wine in hand, guests at Abbadia San Giorgio find themselves immersed in a world where time slows, and beauty lingers.

We just finished a 6 night stay at Abbadia San Giorgio and it was everything we could have hoped for. Located in Moneglia just a few minutes train ride to Cinque Terre.Great is a wonderful host and cannot do enough to make your stay enjoyable. Suzzanne, the cook makes a wonderful breakfast each morning. You must try her Scambled egg frittata. Her cakes and pies are super good. You always have a nice surprise treat of cake or pie waiting for you when you return at the end of the day.The Abbey dates back to I believe the 13th century. It is impressive and has been modified to provide all the comforts you expect. The double cloister is a nice place to sit and enjoy some downtime. It is attached to a beautiful church that was built by the Francisian order.

Little paradise on earth: this eight-room “boutique hotel” offers nights with breakfast in an enchanting setting: a beautiful historic cloister which has retained some beautiful frescoes and statues from its previous life. The rooms are lovely, ultra comfortable, filled with period furniture. Very generous breakfast fully served at the place - which is becoming rare even in luxury hotels - (gluten-free cakes +++)Extreme kindness and broad smiles from the staff to be highlighted. Dream beaches 5 minutes walk away in a beautiful, very busy resort

We’re not ones to appreciate a nice hotel, but once in a rare while, we stay at a hotel so magical that the entirety of our trip becomes more memorable just by the virtue of staying at that particular hotel. Abbadia San Giorgio makes this very short list of simply out of this world hotels.I can’t say enough pleasant things. Everything was just… perfect. The rooms are quiet, cool, classy, and comfortable. The staff is extremely pleasant and service oriented. The owner herself is attentive and present. And the breakfasts are luxurious (with freshly baked cakes every morning!). Most importantly, the property itself is something out of fairytales and makes you feel like you’re an extra in a James Bond movie.I’d gladly spend months at this hotel if I could. Thank you, Gretta and staff, for having us. We hope to return.

Greta is amazing - the place is centrally located, very comfortable inside and the breakfast is amazing. They source some amazingly high quality ingredients, you can tell the flavors are just more intense. We traveled with three kids and everyday there were cakes/cookies for them from the staff. We did some activities with them as well that the kids really liked. This place was great to experience Moneghlia and recharge in the middle of our Italy trip!Oh also importantly, some of the best WIFI we’ve had on our trip in any hotel.

Luxury and best in class hospitality and food at the abbey. Our travel agent recommended a stay at the abbey and I admit I had reservations at first. It blew my mind - our stay was truly an experience, on par with luxury 5 star hotels. The service was impeccable, from booking to bookings tours to beach clubs to reservations. The breakfast was out of this world. The beds and towels were luxuriously comfortable, and the daily housekeeping was heavenly with home baked cakes and biscuits. I'm already wondering when I can make a return trip, and how to remember and thank Greta and her truly wonderful and caring staff.

Wow & wow! Amazing location and hotel. We were blown away. Such a beautiful hotel with such caring staff. Loved our breakfast each morning in the courtyard. Plus the location is walking distance to everything but not in the thoroughfare. Moneglia is certainly a hidden gem in terms of location. Highly recommend!
