Watch as the ocean meets the countryside at the Masseria Mongió dell’Elefante

By the coast of Salento, still rooted in the rural architecture and philosophy of the region, you will find the boutique hotel Masseria Mongió dell’Elefante. An impressive building sits by a remarkable landscape, close to the Baia dei Turchi and its turquoise waters. It highlights relaxation paired with a fresh ocean breeze and extravagant design with exceptional service.

Sunbathe by the pool during the warm summer months, and later unwind in the privacy of your private garden and uniquely designed room. Soak in a Turkish bath at the SPA while sipping on herbal tea. Book a massage in your room and enjoy it in the fresh air from the terrace. Taste local ingredients paired masterfully together to give both coastal and rural flavours at the hotel’s restaurant, combined with a glass of quality Apulian wine in the evening.

Masseria Mongió dell’Elefante is a rural house with 17 different rooms, giving a unique and tailor-made experience for those seeking leisure. Each room follows a minimalistic and local design, using sustainable materials and respecting the quietness of the building’s architectural style, differing only in size and shape. The colors match the nature surrounding the place, offering a sense of continuity regarding the original state of the site and upgrading its comfort.

We had high hopes but were sorely let down. The photos online do not give a proper sense of what we ended up experiencing. The rooms were very poorly laid out with cramped bathrooms and limited windows. The living spaces are pushed back to the property line and you are constantly walking through staff areas. The Masseria itself is also very strange and with no communal spaces. Who ever the architect was did a very poor job.The staff were overbearing and unpleasant. They were constantly trying to get us to make a dinner reservation, even calling the room multiple times after we had declined. Lots of posted rules including numerous “no touching” signs around d the property. The pool closes at 6.Breakfast was straight up bad. The room where breakfast was served smelled like sewage. Not worth the money. Stay elsewhere.

From the moment we arrived, we were treated with warmth and kindness. May I say that Ivan went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. We felt taken care of and thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this peaceful setting. The pool and the lounge area were very relaxing, and our room was perfect for a family of 4. The private outdoor seating area was an extra bonus for us. We highly recommend this wonderful place.

The Masseria is a wonderful place to stay; it’s clean, very nicely furnished, quiet and the staff is very friendly and helpful, we felt very welcome and at home.We ate twice dinner at the restaurant and it was excellent food, very nicely presented too, the best meals we had during our stay in Puglia. We’ll come again, hopefully during better weather so we can also enjoy the lovely outside dining room, which we sadly couldn’t use this time due to the wind.

Just got back from a truly wonderful 10 days at the Masseria Mongio. We were all set to explore Puglia, but the hotel pool and beach, Baia dei Turchi, a 5 minute walk away, seemed to prevent us from venturing any further, other than a bike ride into Ortranto and back. The Masseria was all we had hoped for and the Staff, headed by Ivan & Salvatore, Maria & Francesca, so very friendly and helpful.Dinner (Seafood) each night very, very good, as was breakfast each morning. So good, we’ve booked another week in September.Just got back from a truly wonderful 10 days at the Masseria Mongio. So good, we’ve booked another week in September.

This place is amazing. The location, the rooms, the food and the service are all top-notch. And it's relatively inexpensive for all you are getting. They upgraded us to a lovely little villa set apart from the other rooms, provided a free, delicious, four-course dinner (!!) one night and one hour free in their hot tub. Everyone who works there - Ivan, Maria, Francesca and others -- were accommodating and cheerful. Would definitely come back to this lovely place.

Gorgeous, authentic masseria tucked away just outside Otranto, two minutes' walk from Baia dei Turchi beach. The rooms are stylish, care was given to the details. The food was delicious and refined, especially the dinners. And super nice staff, thank you Ivan and team!

We spent three nights here. It was so peaceful and perfect for a mini break. The pool is excellent and the rooms are spacious and clean and comfortable. Ivan at the front desk is so so so helpful. We love that the beach was a short walk too and used the bikes to ride 20 mins into otranto too. Would stay again for sure.

Had a great stay here. Staff are super friendly and helpful. We took bikes to Otranto which was about 20 mins away. There’s a free beach 5 min walk away. The pool is exceptional - great place to relax and cool down. The rooms are great and ours had a nice outdoor area to sit and enjoy a drink and snacks. Breakfast cakes are delicious. Would come back.
